MTG Enhances e-Sports Presence with their DreamHack Acquisition

MTG, who is a digital entertainment company, will be acquiring the e-sports operator for SEK244 million ($28.1 million/€26.1 million) from the firm’s management and private investors.

The company was established in Sweden over 20 year ago, and DreamHack is regarded to be one of the major e-sports companies in Scandinavia.

The company is responsible for organising major digital festivals, both DreamHack Summer and DreamHack Winter in Sweden, events in Spain, UK, France, Russia and Romania.

Seven of the DreamHacks live events during 2015 attracted more than 105,000 people, and e-sports fans have watched 34 million hours in total of DreamHack content online.

This agreement follows after MTG had acquired a 74% stake in Turtle Entertainment earlier this year. Turtle Entertainment is the largest of the world’s e-sports companies that is operating under the ESL brand.

This complements their recent investment in ESL, and also reinforces their commitment to video gaming as it is one of the most frequently watched and the fastest growing online video categories, said the MTG president and chief executive, Jørgen Madsen Lindemann.

He continued that their strategy was to invest in complementary, relevant, scalable digital brands, content and communities.

They are creating a digital video entertainment ecosystem and the e-sports is at the centre of this, given that it has global appeal and a huge following.

Chief executive of DreamHack, Marcus Lindmark, added that DreamHack was already Sweden’s largest digital festival and that MTG’s investment will not only enable them to consolidate their position, but to also accelerate their international expansion of their festivals across the globe.

They have many years of experience as one of the most innovative and successful e-sports organisers, broadcaster, and of creating entertaining e-sports content for both the traditional and the digital media partners.

They have been working very closely with MTG over the past two years growing e-sports further, so their partnership is not new and they know each other well and they look forward to taking their cooperation to a new levels.
