How Can US Residents Play Poker Online?
Several years ago this question sounded really strange. What’s the problem? All you have to do is to find a good poker room online via search engines, newsletters, poker portals etc. and bang - you are playing poker either for free or for real money. Today playing poker online is way harder for US citizens because of payment methods restrictions and also because many rooms closed to US market. Below you will find the problem, history, and solutions for the American poker playing community.
Poker Rooms Open to USA Players - 2015
Update: June 2015
As is always the case in the month of June, The World Series of Poker dominates the poker news, and one man in particular has been in the headlines as Phil Hellmuth did the job yet again and won his 14th WSOP Bracelet. The 2015 WSOP Main Event is just a week away and begins on 5th of July, ending the series until the final table resumes in November.
In the world of online poker in the US, Americas Cardroom is yet again pulling out all of the stops and has released the date for its next $1,000,000 guaranteed online poker tournament, and that date for your diary is Sunday August 2nd. The Million Dollar Sundays at ACR are by far the largest tourneys available for US players and that huge amount of cash means a stack of players at the Americas Cardroom tables, but it’s not the only poker room that’s on the up right now as Full Flush Poker, on that same day of July 5th are serving up their birthday tournament of a $25,000 GTD and have in fact upped their whole tournament offering. It’s all eyes on Vegas with the big one looming, and the whole poker world will be thinking of little else but the Main Event, at least until that big $1 Million at Americas Cardroom kicks off!
In the world of poker the month of May sees players from around the world heading to Las Vegas and taking their seats in the worlds biggest poker festival, and May 2015 was no different. The WSOP 2015 is now up a running, however as the Main Event is nowhere near ready to start as yet, US online poker rooms keep their focus, and their poker promotions firmly on the big one.
The WSOP Leaderboard challenge at Full Flush poker is still going strong and there’s plenty of time for you to get involved in that one, and there’s even a new WSOP promotion just starting at the awesome Americas Cardroom, and the World Series of Jackpots is a superb hyper turbo sit n go game that can take you all the way to the glitz and the glamor of Vegas. The World Series of Jackpots is a twist on the ACR Jackpot Poker game in which 3 people take to a table, and a random prize is displayed before the game begins, and while that prize can be a huge amount of cash, in the new take on things, it could also be a $12,500 WSOP package that gets you into the Main Event...now that’s a promotion we like.
Things stayed steady in the world of US online poker as we entered the warmer months and the largest promotional announcement was from the great Carbon Poker who were only too happy to let everyone know that the massive Carbon OPS will be kicking off on May 3rd and will be serving up $2.3 Million in guaranteed prize pools. The main events alone will be providing a massive $500,000 in cash and it all happens over a frantic 15 days of online poker tournament action. New players can get a great 100% welcome bonus up to $1,000 and there’s also the Bonus Mania promotion running right now too.
Both BetOnline and Full Flush Poker are still gearing up for this years WSOP in Las Vegas, providing all players with their chance to take to the felt and take on the best players in the world, and Americas Cardroom announced the massive $150,000 Freebuy Super Series that runs way into May. In regulated online poker in the US the state of California moved one step closer to regulated the online action however, as has always been the case so far, that could stall at anytime.
February 2015 was a month full of good news for US online poker players, and those who love to get their tournament action offline too. First up we had the release of the schedule of the WSOP 2015 in Las Vegas and it threw up a few surprises, with the $10 Million Guaranteed first place prize in the main event being taken down, and instead a whole lot more players will make it to the money seats - great news for the smaller recreational players! Keeping the WSOP theme going, Full Flush Poker released a great promotion that will see the winner of the new WSOP Leaderboard Challenge head to Vegas this year to take on the big boys, and we expect the likes of Bovada Poker to be rolling out their WSOP promotions soon.
Great news from Americas Cardroom in that their $1 Million guaranteed multi-table tournament took place this month, drawing in huge amounts of players and all went smoothly, and they’ll no doubt be planning something similar to that Winning Millions tourney very soon. Carbon Poker kept their lobby busy with the introduction of the Mega Stacks tournaments as well as launching the Caribbean Beach Poker Classic and fantastic news came from Intertops Poker as after a 4 year absence from the US market they announced that they are now yet again accepting players from the US - another great online poker room for US online players to enjoy. We’re heading into spring and we’re expecting a blast of new promotions and ways to win big, as well as more WSOP satellite promotions from the best of US online poker rooms.
During January 2015 we had big news from the WSOP, we had the announcement of a big online poker tournament series and we also had news of a new date for the big $1 Million tournament taking place at Americas Cardroom. Starting with that huge million dollar tournament over at ACR, it will now take place on February 22nd at 3pm ET and satellites offering you a cheap seat to the big event will be running all throughout February and right up until the tourney begins. Continuing with Americas Cardroom, they are also now running what’s called the Sunday Special in which you decide just how big their special guaranteed tournament each Sunday will be, as they increase the prize pool as the guarantees gets met. There’s more news about that one on the site, and all new players to ACR will get a 100% match bonus on their first deposit.
Over at Carbon Poker they’ve announced a similar poker promotion with their progressive prize pools, there’s the return of the Bonus Mania deal and the big news is that the Carbon Online Poker Series that’s providing over $2 Million in guaranteed tournament prize pools will kick off on February 8th, with a massive 76 events spread over 15 days.
Big news in land based poker is that the WSOP Main Event 2015 will not deliver a guaranteed $10 Million prize pool and will instead pay all players down to 1000th place. This news has been welcomed by amateur players and pro’s alike, as it spreads the money across the board and will pay out more players than ever before.
Things tend to ease up a little in the month of December in regards to US online poker but all of the big rooms did of course roll out something a little special for the festive period. Bovada Poker delivered a late Christmas gift in the shape of extra guaranteed tournaments on New Years Day while Carbon Poker continued with their Super Bowl freeroll promotion. There was a little action at Full Flush Poker too as they added the Late Night Freezer tournament to the schedule with a nightly $3,000 Guarantee and the Rising Star promotion headed toward its climax in the new year.
There was a little bad news in that the Winning Millions tournament at Americas Cardroom had to be cancelled very late in the day due to technical issues, however that one has been rescheduled, and in regulation news a California online poker bill for 2015 has already been presented...just like you knew it would be. Here’s to a great 2015 with the best US online poker rooms providing all that makes visiting the virtual felt a pleasure.
November 2014 was a good month in US online poker and it was Americas Cardroom who dominated on the promotions front. Pushing the Winning Millions $1 Million guaranteed tournament that is to take place mid december, they made it even easier for players to get their cheap seats and also rolled out their biggest online poker tournament series to date, the Online Super Series IV which serves up $1.75 Million in GTD prizes. They also maxed out their Sit n Crush promotion and added PLO to the Cage promotion too.

Carbon Poker launched the Double Impact promotion which is a $10,000 sit n go deal as well as launching their new December Frosty Freerolls offering which will be throwing $10,000 worth of freerolls into the lobby. Full Flush Poker continued to grow nicely and served up a Thanksgiving special of a $20,000 tournament, their biggest to date, as well as giving plenty of emphasis on their great Game of Poker Thrones promotion which culminates in a huge $100,000 tournament on January 4th. We expect to see plenty of great deals on the way for December, and as the nights continue to get longer, you can expect online poker in the US to stay busy!
October 2014 saw us draw a little closer to the first $1 Million Guaranteed online poker tournament for US players for many years, as Americas Cardroom began to push the Winning Millions tournament that takes place on December 14th. That’s something all US online poker players should be taking a look at, and as of October 31st, new players can get a seat in that massive $1 Million tourney for making just a $10 initial deposit and gaining ACR rewards points. Full Flush Poker also had something to shout about as they began their 1st year birthday celebrations, and there’s a whole host of huge tournaments and big poker bonuses up for grabs, with new players now being offered a superb 150% bonus up to $1,500.
The biggest US online poker room of them all, that of Bovada, really pushed the boat out for its upcoming Golden Spade Poker Open with that taking place in November, and they also doubled the deal on their refer friend program. As the winter nights draw in you’ll find that many more players take to the tables of US online poker rooms, meaning that there’s even more action at the real money tables, and it’s even easier to jump in on the games of your choice.
September was a busy month in the world of US online poker and almost all big US facing rooms served up big promotions, with possibly Bovada Poker standing out from the pack. September saw the launch of several cool Bovada offers, and they will be running through fall, with players getting the chance to play their way to the Super Bowl in Arizona in the great Poker Bowl promotion. There’s also seats up for grabs to the big one in November, the Punta Cana Poker Classic and on top of that there’s the huge Golden Spade Poker Open that has $2 Million in guaranteed prize money up for grabs and runs through until November.
Not to be left too far behind Carbon Poker launched their very own Super Bowl promo called Freeroll Your Way to the Super Bowl which asks you to pick winning teams in the Monday night game before taking your seat in a Tuesday freeroll. Americas Cardroom gave us details of their new deal which is a monster real money Texas Hold’em promotion called The Cage and they also started pushing their biggest ever online poker tournament that will see $1 Million guaranteed up for grabs in the Winning Millions tournament. Full Flush Poker have been growing massively and due to that have boosted many of the guaranteed amounts on their tourneys and also upped the welcome bonus to a cool 150% up to $1,500...now that’s a cool welcome deal! It’s all go in US online poker and as we head into the longer nights and the winter starts to set in, it’s usually the case that more players hit the tables and the action gets even hotter.
Playing Poker for Americans – The Problem
The serious problem started on May 25, 2006 when the House passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, a bill that put restrictions on accepting credit cards, checks, or other bank instruments from gamblers who illegally bet over the Internet”. Though the debate about what is legal and what is not are still continuing, a number of practical steps were taken by e-wallet solution providers and currently this is the problem for the poker community. A number of big brands has left the US market and a number of big deposit methods were wiped out of the market.

Check by Mail - Very slow, because your check physically has to reach the poker room, but sometimes the only possibility.
Western Union - If you experience problems with your credit card, the old fashion WU transaction can solve your problem.
