UIGEA Update: February 20, 2010

In a court ruling that may have significant impact on gambling online, it was determined that the UIGEA Law could only be enforced in states where online gambling is illegal. Therefore, if a state decides to legalize gambling; the UIGEA Law would not apply. In addition, some US states are debating whether or not to legalize "some form of online gambling." New York, California, Florida, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, and Pennsylvania are considering such a move. But things are mover faster in Iowa, however. There may be a hearing on the legalization of online gambling in the very near future. With more than 15 million residents of Iowa gambling online, legislators have conceded that Iowa is an online gambling state. This is due in part to a report that over $8 billion dollars was spent in online gambling in this state. Again, the recent poll wherein 90% of US residents want online gambling is apparently having an affect on the decision-making process. Stay tuned………
