There were more than 70 casinos operating in Colorado in the early nineties, but slowly the mom-pop run casinos were dwarfed by the mega casinos built later on. Today, Colorado has about 40 operating casinos, all located in Black Hawk, Cripple Creek, and Central City. Another surprising fact was that the maximum bet amount was $5. But due to a change in the law in 2009, that amount was raised to $100 max bet on all gaming.
