The Writing is on the Wall in Big Bold Letters

Everyone talks about getting the economy up and running again but everyone is missing one obvious solution: the legalization of online gambling. When the Justice Department shut down several poker sites in 2011, they threw the baby out with the bath water. Once again, we are having the same old discussion about legalizing online gambling. So what’s the problem? Why can’t we all come to a consensus?

Billions of Dollars Gambled Away

While most Republican lawmakers are trashing the government for the huge national debt, they are sitting idly by instead of coming up with a solution; one that is staring them in the face on a daily basis. Legalizing online gambling could yield billions of dollars in annual taxes that could be used to pay down the national debt. Individual states can also benefit through taxing online gambling, thus helping their individual economies. Yet, day after day; month after month; and year after year; intelligent men have become ideologically fixated on the notion that taxing the middle class and poor; and getting rid of vital social programs (especially for women) is the answer. They’re wrong! They are literally gambling away billions of dollars because of one reason and one reason only: to legalize online gambling would give the Democratic Party an edge and would be one more plus in the incumbent’s column.

Lessons to be Learned

The Republican lawmakers in D.C. should heed the lessons of Governor Cuomo in N.Y. Build a casino in the heart of Queens, and watch as that casino rakes in billions of dollars. $50 million in taxes have already been paid towards education. Imagine, then, if the legalization of online gambling were to happen – poker sites alone would yield more than $5 billion dollars annually in taxes. If every state were to vote on a measure to legalize online gambling, they could take in over $3 billion a year. So what’s the problem?

LEGALIZE ONLINE GAMBLING

Because this is an election year, most lawmakers are dug in as it relates to online gambling. Our country cannot afford to waste any more time or money. Legalize gambling now and use the taxes to build roads, bridges, hire more teachers, cops, firemen – and yes, pay down the debt. Let’s stop the nonsense and get to work.
